Sharing a Map
GISOwl gives you granular control over who can access your maps and what they can do.
Share Settings
Click the Share button in the top-right corner of the map editor. You'll see three access levels:
Private — Only workspace members you explicitly invite can access the map. Default for new maps.
Anyone with the link — Anyone who has the URL can access the map. Choose between view-only and edit access.
Public — The map is discoverable in your workspace's public gallery and indexed by search engines.
Inviting People
In the share dialog, type an email address or select a workspace member. Assign a role:
- Viewer — Can see the map and data but cannot make changes.
- Commenter — Can view and leave comments but cannot edit.
- Editor — Can edit data, styles, annotations, and settings.
- Owner — Full control including sharing permissions and deletion.
Link Settings
For link-shared maps, you can optionally restrict access by:
- Requiring a password
- Setting an expiration date
- Limiting to specific email domains
Notifications
Collaborators receive an email notification when invited. You can add an optional message to the invitation.
Next Steps
