Workspaces & Projects
GISOwl uses a two-level organizational structure: workspaces contain projects, and projects contain maps.
Workspaces
A workspace represents your organization. It's the top-level container for all maps, data, members, and settings. Each workspace has its own billing, permissions, and data library.
Most teams have one workspace. Agencies or consultancies managing multiple clients may create separate workspaces per client.
Projects
Projects group related maps within a workspace. For example, you might have projects for "Downtown Redevelopment," "Fleet Management," and "Environmental Monitoring."
Creating a Project
- From the workspace dashboard, click New Project.
- Enter a name and optional description.
- Set the default sharing level for maps in this project.
Project Permissions
Projects inherit the workspace's member list. You can restrict a project to a subset of members. Members not in the project cannot see its maps.
Map Organization
Within a project, maps appear in a grid or list view. You can sort by name, last modified, or creation date. Use search and tags to find maps quickly.
Data Library
The workspace data library stores datasets independently from maps. Upload data once, reference it in multiple maps. When the source updates, all maps reflect the changes.
