Getting Started with the Field App
The GISOwl Field App is a native mobile application for iOS and Android that lets you view maps, collect data, and edit features while out in the field.
Installation
Download the GISOwl app from the App Store or Google Play. Sign in with your GISOwl workspace credentials.
Syncing Maps
Maps from your workspace appear automatically in the app. Tap a map to open it. For offline use, tap the download icon to cache the map tiles and layer data to your device.
Collecting Data
- Open a map with an editable layer.
- Tap the + button to add a new feature.
- Choose the geometry type: point (tap location), line (trace a path), or polygon (trace an area).
- Fill in the attribute form. Forms are auto-generated from the layer schema, with support for text, numbers, dates, dropdowns, photos, and signatures.
- Tap Save. The feature syncs to the cloud immediately if you have connectivity, or queues for sync when you're back online.
GPS Tracking
Enable GPS tracking to record your path as a line feature in real time. Useful for surveying routes, boundaries, and field transects.
Offline Mode
All cached maps and collected data work offline. Edits queue locally and sync automatically when connectivity is restored. Conflict resolution shows you both versions if the same feature was edited by someone else while you were offline.
