# Spreadsheets

Upload CSV and Excel files to visualize tabular data on a map. GISOwl can geocode addresses or use existing coordinate columns.

## Coordinate Columns

If your spreadsheet has latitude and longitude columns, GISOwl auto-detects them during upload. Common column names like `lat`, `lng`, `latitude`, `longitude`, `y`, `x` are recognized automatically.

## WKT Geometry

If your spreadsheet contains a WKT (Well-Known Text) geometry column, GISOwl parses it to create points, lines, or polygons.

## Address Geocoding

If your data has address columns but no coordinates, GISOwl can geocode them. During the import wizard, select the address column(s) — street, city, state, zip, country — and GISOwl converts them to coordinates using its built-in geocoder. Geocoding is rate-limited based on your plan.

## Column Mapping

After upload, review the column mapping screen. You can rename columns, set data types (text, number, date), and exclude columns you don't need. Changes apply immediately to the imported layer.

## Handling Errors

If rows fail to geocode or contain invalid coordinates, GISOwl shows a summary of errors and lets you download a CSV of failed rows for correction.
